Enterprise Architect, UK Government Ministry, London: 2011-

·         Leading Enterprise Architecture initiative to radically improve information exchange between key parts of the criminal justice system.

·         Internal consulting project to review enterprise architecture for all ‘Arm’s Length Bodies’ sponsored by the Ministry of Justice, including the high-level technical, application, data and business architecture of each. Organisations covered were as diverse as the Legal Services Commission, Information Commissioner’s Office, Legal Ombudsman, and UK Supreme Court.

·         Established rapport with a wide range of stakeholders in disparate governmental organisations which aided rapidly assimilation of information of information about very varied IT landscapes.

·         Performed architectural due diligence leading to the relocation of the headquarters of several large governmental organisations in a time-critical projects.

·         Delivered architectural roadmaps for the integration of over 50 Arm's Length Bodies into the Ministry of Justice’s overall enterprise architecture – driving efficiencies and synergies.

·         Produced presentations for senior civil service management that concisely communicated key findings from the enterprise architecture discovery exercise.

Global Enterprise Architect/IT Strategy Manager, Major Multinational Travel Company
Luton/London: 2001 –

·      Enterprise architect for major business change initiative leading to standardisation of business processes and technology across largest subsidiary companies in group with business case benefits of £70m+. Produced business-focused technology roadmaps to manage change over a programme of several years of legacy system replacement and introduction of new techniques (e.g. Business Process Management).

·      Senior strategic IT role that required frequent and in-depth engagement with board level executives, including CEO, COO, CIO and IT Director level, which has required effective and innovative communications and influencing skills. Strength in ability to deliver analysis of complex technical scenarios, concisely summing up the key issues, while also possessing the credibility to communicate with technically-focused IT staff.

·      Led strategic review of desktop applications across company with particular focus on unified communications and productive applications of collaborative applications, including social media, Web 2.0, messaging, presence information, etc. Project was key component of common infrastructure procurement project that will save £80m over five years.

·      Simplified the organisation’s enterprise architecture by leading an initiative which introduced a flexible IT infrastructure, maximising use of industry best practices and laying a solid foundation for the introduction of Service Orientated Architecture. This introduced scalable solutions using technologies such as web-services, XML, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), Business Activity Management (BAM), Business Process Monitoring (BPM), etc.

·      Responsibility for ensuring that IT plays a key role as business enabler for innovation within the company, having sole authorship of technology-related sections of group IT strategy. Evaluated new trends in technology, gathered market place/industry intelligence from external sources and made the lead recommendation of standard technologies, products and suppliers for group.

·      Initiated and led project introducing corporate intranet for up to 50,000 individual users, fulfilling key part of strategy for internal communications department of newly-merged company.

·      Established architecture management board to provide a technical design authority across the multi-national organisation – setting up a dedicated small team to implement the associated architecture governance processes. This has had a positive impact on profitability identifying project synergies, promoting increased re-use of existing functional components and eliminating duplication.

·      Enterprise architect in cross-company working group assessing solutions for provision of passenger identity data to border control agencies worldwide (APIS, UK Border Agency e-Borders, US Secure Flight). Worked closely with government regulatory affairs department and industry bodies to define methods for communication of air passenger personal data for government security agencies worldwide.

·      Made keynote presentation to Corporate Infrastructure Forum (tif) workshop on IT innovation. Made a significant contribution to architecture best practice guide produced by CIO Connect’s IT Architecture Special Interest Group.

·      Led the introduction of industry standard IT architecture principles, standards and methodology (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman). Experienced in using Enterprise Architecture tools (e.g. System Architect). TOGAF 9 certified Enterprise Architecture practitioner.  Keen to ensure continuing professional development includes the latest technical knowledge and refreshed technical skills by attaining Open University Postgraduate Diploma in Software Development , requiring study over four years.

Senior Management Consultant, Niche Management Consultancy, London: 2000 – 2001

·      Prepared a regional health authority for the introduction of electronic patient records by conducting business analysis of cross-organisational business processes between various NHS organisations and local government providers of social services in the areas of child protection and community care.

·      Managed preparation of conference papers and presentations on mobile Internet technology and digital channel strategy. 

·      MBA from Kingston University with strong IT orientation. MBA dissertation on strategic use of e-commerce technology was awarded a distinction.

Consultant/Project Manager, Travel System Consultancy, Heathrow, London:  1996 – 2000

·      Led a project to re-engineer and enhance a reservations database used 24 hours a day by worldwide customers, managing design, specification and delivery. Successfully delivered a new ticketing and financial accounting system for leading European airline handling.  

·      Excellent project management ability, bringing financial and marketing skills to management of several projects and tailoring product to customer needs while maintaining budgetary focus.  Managing teams of software developers, involving leadership, coaching and mentoring.

Consultant, Global Distribution System, Swindon: 1995 – 1996

·      Technical and analytical consultancy skills for £10m+ project to integrate a wide number of travel products (flights, train journeys, theatres, hotels, etc.) into a seamless, multi-platform system for the UK travel industry.

·      Negotiated system definitions with customers that were translated into detailed technical requirements. Audited existing systems and recommended replacement or upgrade where appropriate.

·      Demonstrated flexibility by ability to contribute to team-based projects in addition to managing individual consultancy assignments.

Major International Airline, Heathrow Airport, London: 1988 – 1995 Project Leader: 1993-1995; Analyst Programmer: 1988 - 1993

·      Project manager of team that was responsible for 24/7 operation of British Airways reservations system ensuring continuous, robust and high quality operation of BA’s most critical business system.

·      Completed comprehensive line management and HR training programme. Troubleshooting role demonstrated effective problem solving skills and calm approach to crisis management.

·      Provided consultancy expertise and advice for other project teams.

·      Successfully introduced a total quality management initiative to improve programming standards. This reduced the level of system problems and outages by at least 30% in an environment of rapid change.
